Edo Pop Swaps: Barista Okita
Posted on by gkuznia
Kitagawa Utamaro, Naniwaya Teahouse Waitress Okita (detail), c. 1793
I’m just a simple tea girl who caught the eye of the great artist Utamaro. Though he was known for drawing portraits of lovely courtesans, I soon became one of his favorite subjects. Must be my shy nature, fetching figure, glossy locks—and steady serving hands.
