I’m ready for action, poised in the act of shooting a crossbow. My uniform is designed for speed and ease of movement. But it’s my body posture you should admire: head held high, eyes alert, torso straight as a wooden board, feet turned for balance and agility. Ready, set—shoot!

Origin: Pit 2
Quantity: 139 excavated
Position: Outer perimeters of large phalanxes
Weapon: Crossbow
Features: Posture, lightweight garb

Meet the Standing Archer in person, plus seven other Terracotta Warriors at “China’s Terracotta Warriors: The First Emperor’s Legacy.”
