This past November, “Embarrassment of Riches” was featured in ELLE Germany‘s “HIP” Section, which focuses on cultural highlights, trends and events. The MIA’s exhibition was the only non-European exhibition included in the November issue! To see article click here: 2010 November ELLE

“Exhibition: Is everything too much?

Mikhail Gorbachev sits in a limousine next to a bag with a Louis Vuitton logo. In the background you can see the Berlin Wall: socialism meets capitalism. After he saw this Louis Vuitton advertisement, curator David E. Little was inspired to organize an exhibition about abundance. “Embarrassment of Riches” at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (until January 2) exhibits how the likes of Cindy Sherman and Martin Parr artistically represent the opulence of the last decade – from haute couture fitting rooms to a provocative image of the World Economic Forum as the Last Supper. Incidentally, the exhibit was planned before the financial crisis of 2009.” – English translation provided by Aga Sablinska

Embarrassment of Riches: Picturing Global Wealth is now on view through May 29th, 2011 at the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, Overland Park, KS.
