About the MAEP Panel

Comprised of seven members from the Minnesota arts community elected to two-year terms, the Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program Panel meets regularly to review proposals and select exhibitions. Each year, 3 or 4 panelists rotate off the panel to ensure a continuity of leadership and to allow room for a diversity of critical voices and professional expertise. For details, visit the MAEP Panelist volunteer description link.

New Guidelines

Previously, most new panelists have been nominated and elected during the MAEP annual meeting. To ensure sufficient time for each candidate to campaign, we are now only accepting nominations and self-nominations in advance of the annual meeting. This modification is designed to provide the community with a more complete description of each candidate’s skills, background, and experience before casting a vote while also preserving the democratic voting process.

After the closing date of September 30, 2009, all nominations will be collected and their Letters of Support posted on the MAEP Web site, where they can be read by members of the Minnesota arts community.

To remain on the ballot, nominees must be present at the meeting to officially accept their nomination. The candidates' introductions, voting, and ballot counting will all be conducted during the annual meeting. The election will be decided by a majority vote of the attendees present. Each candidate will present a 2-minute speech about his or her interest in becoming a panelist.

Requirements for Nomination/Self-Nomination

  • All artists who currently live and work in Minnesota are eligible to be nominated.
  • To make a nomination or self-nomination, each candidate must send his or her name, contact information, and a Letter of Support [see below].
  • Only those candidates who have submitted their nominations before the closing date will be considered.
  • All materials must be submitted electronically. Mailed nominations will not be accepted.
  • Nominations from the floor will still be accepted.

Letter of Support

Each nomination or self-nomination will be accompanied by a Letter of Support. The maximum length of this letter is 500 words. When composing your letter, it will be important for you to understand the position’s responsibilities and to address the following questions:

  • Why are you nominating this person/yourself for the panel? What specific skills or experiences make them/you a good candidate?
  • Do they/you have experience as a panelist or a juror?
  • What is their/your standing and position in the arts community?
  • Describe their/your knowledge of the Minnesota arts community and contemporary art.
  • Do they/you have any professional affiliations that would create a conflict of interest?
