From Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program
Artists: Kinji Akagawa, Sixto Beltrandy, Cliff Garten, Michael Mercil and Steven Woodward
October 15 – December 3, 1989
Minnesota Artists Gallery
This exhibition by five Minnesota artists explored the belief that a museum creates a context that significantly affects our interpretations of art and history. Sculptors Kinji Akagawa, Sixto Beltrandy, Cliff Garten, Michael Mercil and Steven Woodward selected works from the museum’s permanent collection, reinstalled them in the MAEP gallery and created a new viewing context by building an artwork related to each museum object. Works from the museum’s collection by Ralph Albert Blakelock, Giorgio deChirico, Ichiryusai Hiroshige, Rene Magritte Piet Mondrian and Raffaello Monti were chosen for this exhibition.
