Meetings and Archetypes

From Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program

Artists: James Burpee and David Rich
October 2 – November 15, 1987

An exhibition of paintings by James Burpee and David Rich. Burpee’s figurative paintings and drawings present us with heroic visions of the common experience. Inspired by mythological study, Burpee explores life’s perennial dilemmas in a narrative fashion, often using paradox, satire or farce as conceptual vehicles for expression. Everyday life is David Rich’s source of imagery - the neighborhood, people on the street, his studio. Emphatically two-dimensional, the archetectonic figures who populate Rich’s paintings speak to the connectedness between people and land or city.
