On October 25, 2008 members of the artist community met to get updated on the current status of the MAEP and vote on several important topics. Below please find some status updates.

New Panel Members

Please welcome new panel members Ta-coumba Aiken, Billy Curmano and Tina Nemetz to the Artist Panel. They will serve on the exhibition selection committee until October, 2010.

Advisory Panel Status

It was voted that the current Advisory Panel (Irve Dell, Carole Fisher, Wayne Potratz, and Jim Tanner) will serve until October, 2009. During this time they will determine the structure of future advisory panels. In the future, the Advisory Panel will look into non-exhibition related issues concerning the MAEP

Agreement between the MIA and the MAEP

Statement of Agreement between the Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts

The seven tenets below constitute a working description of the creative partnership between the MIA and the MAEP.

  1. The MAEP is a Curatorial Department within the MIA. While it reports to the Assistant Director of Exhibitions and Programs, it maintains a status equal to all other curatorial departments.
  2. Exhibitions are selected solely by the Artist Panel. The Panel is comprised of artists living and working in the state of Minnesota elected by their peers at an annual meeting of the artist community.
  3. The Artist Panel will continue to select artists for exhibitions at the MIA, of which there are currently five annually.
  4. Any changes in the number, duration, and/or location of exhibitions shall be done in consultation and mutual agreement with the MAEP Coordinator and the Panel.
  5. The Artist Panel will participate in the hiring of the MAEP Coordinator, including the following: crafting of the job description, recruiting, vetting of applications,interviewing, post-interview discussion, selection of final candidate
  6. The MAEP Coordinator's rank is equivalent to that of Curator.
  7. The MAEP Coordinator will be in charge of communications about the department with MIA staff. The MAEP Coordinator will oversee MAEP administrative decisions in consultation with the Assistant Director of Exhibitions and Programs.
