"Remembering Gus" paid tribute to artist and collector Gus Gustafson, whose untimely death in 2003 saddened members of the Twin Cities art scene. The exhibiton featured selected works from Gustafson's vast collection of artworks by contemporary Minnesota artists and his own photographic works. "Remembering Gus" was organized by a team of artists and curators who had intimate knowledge of the photographer's art and life: Thom Barry, Julie Hartley, Larry Marcus, Tom Adair and Glen Hanson. The exhibition was accompanied by a video documentary about Gustafson, featuring many artists from the community.
Gus’s entire collection was sold during a silent auction beginning December 15 and ending at midnight, March 19, the last day of the exhibition. A Web site, http://www.sinard.com/gus4art, featured images and details. The proceeds from the sale were divided equally among Gus’s immediate family and a scholarship in Gus’s name to fund fine-art photography at the University of Minnesota.
