Spirit House
From Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program
Artists: Seitu Jones, Ta-coumba Aiken and William Slack
August 8 – September 25, 1988
A multimedia installation by Seitu Jones, Ta-coumba Aiken and William Slack that explored the spiritual and aesthetic connections of African and African-American visual traditions. Functioning as a “museum within a museum,” Spirit House guided the viewer on a journey through the artists’ interpretations of the history and traditions of African-American society. Using African objects from the MIA’s permanent collection, the artists created new installation contexts for the objects they chose.
